Best of the Lakes

At Border City Autos, we’re lucky enough to be based in Carlisle, a stone's throw away from the most popular national park in the UK, the Lake District. With summer just around the corner, we have put together a list of our favourite places to visit.

Scafell Pike

Standing tall at 978m, Scafell Pike holds the title of England’s highest mountain. Famed for forming a third of the Three Peaks Challenge, this mountain is a challenge to walk in its own right. Pitched at those with moderate fitness levels, the mountain takes a total of six to seven hours to complete. If you’re planning on making the trip, make sure you pack all the essentials, wear the right gear and check the weather forecast.

Windermere and the Islands

Windermere is the busiest of the Lakes, but we wouldn’t let that deter you from visiting. A mile wide at its broadest point and up to 220m deep, you can hire a boat for the afternoon or maybe even check out some of the Islands. There are cruises which let you explore the 18 islands on Windermere. Belle Isle is the largest and home to a mansion, while Maiden Holme is the smallest with a patch of soil and one lonely tree.

Castlerigg Stone Circle

48 ancient stones reside here, dating back 3,000-4,000 years. If that wasn’t spectacular enough, the circle is set in a ring of mountain peaks for that extra wow-factor and stunning sunsets. You’ll find the stone circle around a mile from Keswick and it is definitely worth the trip.

They’re our top three picks for the Lake District but there are so many other amazing places to see and things to do. Keep your eyes on our blog for more tips and places to visit. If you’re looking for a used car in Carlisle, visit Border City Autos and we will make sure you are road trip ready to tour the Lakes.
